Battle royale games are simple to explain and hard to master: a hundred or so players drop onto a map, the safe zone keeps shrinking and the last person or squad standing wins. If you’re new and keep getting eliminated early, these basics will help.
1. Choose your landing spot wisely
Popular named locations attract lots of players. Landing there means instant fights, which is great practice but often ends badly for beginners. Try landing at the edge of the flight path, loot calmly and then move towards the action.
2. Loot fast, not forever
Grab a main weapon, armour, a helmet and healing items, then move. Spending too long looking for the perfect attachment often leaves you stuck outside the safe zone.
3. Always watch the zone
Check the map regularly and plan your route early. Moving before the zone forces you to gives you time to pick a good position, usually high ground or solid cover.
4. Sound is information
Footsteps, gunshots and vehicles tell you where enemies are. Playing with earphones or a headset makes a huge difference. Many mobile games also show sound indicators on screen; turn them on in settings.
5. Customise your controls
Default layouts are rarely ideal. Most players move to a three- or four-finger setup over time so they can move, aim and shoot at the same time. Practise in the training area until it feels natural.
6. Learn to use cover
Before every fight, ask yourself: where will I hide if this goes wrong? Peeking from behind walls, rocks and vehicles makes you a much harder target than standing in the open.
7. Communicate with your squad
Simple, clear calls win games:
- “Enemy, north-east, behind the red building.”
- “I’m knocked, need revive.”
- “Moving to zone now.”
Use pings and markers if you’re not comfortable with voice chat.
8. Review your deaths
When you’re eliminated, watch the kill replay if available. Were you caught in the open? Did you reload at a bad time? Learning one lesson per death adds up quickly.
Above all, be patient. Every good player was once the first one knocked out in their squad. For more tips, check out our Mobile Games section.
